05/02/2008 - The Most Useless Post Ever!
I just wanted an excuse to post a pic and express my best wishes to you for a happy weekend. Here's hoping your weekend is full of COWBELL!

|
04/22/08 - Viral Marketing.
In addition to our Secret Song contest, we are trying some viral marketing to get the word out about 107.9 The Track. You HAVE to see this video.
It features Ann Duran's theme song "H.A.P.P.Y Radio" by Edwin Starr. It also features the air staff, sales staff, and management.
It even features Dave Smiley and Weedman, from our sister station Z 99.5.
After you see the video, you'll probably have the urge to want to buy WIllie B. some dance lessons! hehe
|
04/17/2008 - Swinging!!!!
So do you like to swing dance? There's group of swing dancers in Indianapolis that get together in night spots around town to have a ball!! The group is called Naptown Stomp. Their website is here.
If you'd like to attend an event, I recommend Friday April 25th, at the Fountain Square Theater from 730p to 1130p. There will be a live band playing, and if you need a refresher on how to do some simple swing dance steps, the first hour is devoted to a quick lesson.
If you are a beginner, please don't be afraid to attend. I've been many times and it is a blast!!! Everyone there makes sure you have a good time!
The gang at Naptown Stomp is up to something unusual after the dance, it's called a 'Lindy Bonb'. From what I've read online, a 'Lindy Bomb' is where a group of swing dancers go to a non-swing dancing venue, and, well, they dance!
A group of dancers is planning on going to The Slippery Noodle, sounds like fun!

04/10/2008 - The Last Lecture
So have you seen "The Last Lecture" yet?
You really should take the time. The video is all over the internet.
A professor who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer gave a very moving and positive lecture to his students and family.
It really is something to see and to think about. There was a special on ABC about him last night.
I highly encourage you to see it. Here's a link to get you started.

04/092008 - Cuff Wars Part One!
Off The Cuff is an internet video feature of theindychannel.com, WRTV-6's website.
It features Paul Poteet and Tom Davis, the weather and traffic reporters from Good Morning Indiana.
The premise of todays clip is that Tom Davis, is jealous of lil ole me, because he still gets introduced as "Tom Berg" during their morning show.
So he decides to come to the radio station to settle this once and for all.
It's a 2-part extravaganza, with the second part posting on their website this Friday.
Part 1 is here.
How about that acting job!!!

Daniel J. Travanti (Actor, "Hill Street Blues)
Hugh Downs (Host)
Barbara Eden (Actress)
Jane Wyatt (Actress)
Barbara Corday (Co-creator, "Cagney & Lacey")
Jerry Lewis (Performer)
Suzanne Pleshette (Actress)
Hal Kanter (Writer/Producer)

03/26/2008 - Another 'Random Stuff' video.

03/20/2008 - March Sickness!!
When the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament rolls around every year, I am reminded of an incident that happened to me a few years ago.
This was back in the late 80's when I was working at a radio station in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
I had caught a nasty cold that I just could not shake no matter what I tried. Not having a regular doctor, I went to the local hospital's emergency room. They asked me if I was allergic to anything, and at the time I wasn't so I told them 'no'.
I got a prescription for some kind of penicillin dirivitive, and that's when the fun began.
I started losing my hair, and my throat was almost swollen SHUT!
So I make my way BACK to the hospital, and they tell me I had an allergic reaction to the medication. What a way to find out I was allergic to penicillin!!!
The male nurse, who I'm sure was trying to lighten the mood, told me that if they had taken an x-ray of my entire body right then and there, ALL my internal organs would show up swollen!! Nice......
What does all that have to do with college basketball?? Well, I was admitted to the hospital on the first day of the college basketball tournament that year. So while I was bed-ridden, I had basketball to entertain me for my 2 day stay in the hospital.
I'm feeling much better now, and almost all of my hair grew back!! ;-)

03/18/2008 - Random Stuff On My Desk.

03/13/2008 - Back In Time, and Jared!
Want a good laugh??
I recently found a picture of myself printed in the Indianapolis Star back in 1976 when I was 12 (almost 13). The picture was printed because I was the 6th grade spelling bee champ!!

Ain't I cute??
BONUS: I had a chance to talk to Jared Fogle, you know, the Subway guy, today.

This year he is celebrating 10 years on the Subway diet. You knew he was from Indianapolis, right? He'll be touring the country with his 60-inch waist pants that he wore before he went on the diet. If you want to hear the whole interview, the MP3 is here. Just right click to save it to your desktop. Left click will play it immediately.
|
03/12/2008 - "You're So Vain"
Who is the song about?? It is a question that probably will never be answered. It is a secret that has been kept extremely well.
I've taken some calls about it in the last few days. It's interesting conversation but if you check Carly Simon's official website, she'll never tell, publically anyway.
Click here for all the clues that we DO have!
|
02/26/2008 - Too Cute!
I really don't want to turn my blog into an all 'Star Wars' blog. Really I don't.
But this is just too cute for words. A proud father posted a video of his little girl giving a quick summary of the first movie.
I told you it was cute!
|
02/19/2008 - My Boss Thinks I'm Crazy!!
Scott Sands, otherwise known as my boss, thinks I'm a nut when it comes to Star Wars. He went so far as to send me a news story about a guy who supposedly has the largest Star Wars toy collection in the world!
OK...I don't have NEARLY as much stuff at this guy does. I would say that everything I have wouldn't even equal HALF of what this guy has.
See for yourself....Click here for the story.
|
02/14/2008 - Now that the Writers Strike is over!
Do you want to know when your favorite TV show is coming back? Click here for the news.

|
02/04/2008 - Super Bowl!
So for once, it seems like more people are talking about the game than the commercials this year.
What a concept!
If you want to see the ads again, they are all posted online at www.myspace.com/superbowlads
One ad you might've missed is a Reebok ad featuring the 1972 Miami Dolphins. It's posted online as well. You can click here to see it. Thanks to Mary for pointing that one out to me.
|
01/30/2008 - Dr. Phil!
If you know anything about me, you know that I'm a Star Wars fan right?
I get made fun of it from time to time, it goes with the territory and I take it in stride.
On Dr. Phil today he found someone who is WAAAAAY more into the movies than I am. Hard to believe right?
Click here to see for yourself!
For the record, yes I collect figures and comic books. I do NOT have a costume.
I am nothing compared to this guy on Dr. Phil's show though.
Really!!

01/25/2008 - The Blizzard of 1978
So today marks the 30th anniversary of the Blizzard of 78. If you are new to town, click here to read all about it.
I took a lot of phone calls from you, with your stories from back then, I compiled a few of them for you to listen to.
Click here for the MP3. (Right click to save it to your desktop, or left click to hear it through windows media player.)
Listener Sharon emailed me this story:
1978 would have been in the real "disco days" and my best friend and I
decided that we had to go out dancing when they were announcing that a
winter storm warning was happening, at 3:00 a.m. when everything had closed
down we realized just how much snow was coming down. We were in her
voltzwagen bug and got stuck on a set of train tracks with the train coming
towards us...there was a man in the switching station and he radio'd the
train and it stopped before hitting us.
A kind man in a pick up truck pulled us off of the tracks and then followed
us home to see that we arrived okay. He came into the house to use the
bathroom and by the time he got back out to the truck, it was snowed in
place!
Now the best part...we were in a one bedroom trailer with my 2 year old and
my best friend's 3 year old...her sister and a complete stranger...for THREE
DAYS!
Couldn't do that these days!!!
|
01/24/2008 - A new Journey lead singer.

01/22/2008 - I dont care if this is or isn't legit...it's funny!
from kenlevine.blogspot.com
Every year, English teachers from across the country can submit their collections of actual similes and metaphors found in high school essays. These excerpts are published each year to the amusementof teachers across the country. Here are last year's winners:
1. Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a thigh Master.
2. His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.
3. He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.
4. She grew on him like she was a colony of E.Coli, and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.
5. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.
6. Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.
7. He was as tall as a six-foot, three-inch tree.
8. The revelation that his marriage of 30 years had disintegrated because of his wife's infidelity came as a rude shock, like a surcharge at a formerly surcharge-free ATM machine.
9. The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't.
10. McBride fell 12 stories, hitting the pavement like a Hefty bag filled with vegetable soup.
11. From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you're on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.
12. Her hair glistened in the rain like a nose hair after a sneeze.
13. The hailstones leaped from the pavement, just like maggots when you fry them in hot grease.
14. Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other fromTopeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.
15. They lived in a typical suburban neighborhood with picket fences that resembled Nancy Kerrigan's teeth.
16. John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.
17. He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant, and she was the East River.
18. Even in his last years, Granddad had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long, it had rusted shut.
19. Shots rang out, as shots are known to do.
20. The plan was simple, like my brother-in-law Phil. But unlike Phil, this plan just might work.
21. The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for awhile.
22. He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck, either, but a real duck that was actually lame, maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.
23. The ballerina rose gracefully en Pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.
24. It was an American tradition, like fathers chasing kids around with powertools.
25. He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up.

01/21/2008 - Blogs!
I thought I would take a second and plug a couple of blogs you might be interested in looking at from time to time.
One is written by 'Good Morning Indiana' RTV-6 anchor Grace Trahan. Click here to see it.
She doesn't just re-hash the top news stories of the day, she is very open and honest with her opinions, and talks about spending her mornings with Dan Spehler, Tom Davis, and Paul Poteet.
Speaking of Paul...
He also has a blog on his website as well. Click here to read it.
As one listener once told me about Paul: That boy ain't right!!
If you know of a local 'celebrity' blog that you read often, let me know and I'll post their link here as well.

01/14/08 - When Harry Met Sally & If '24' HAD been on PLUS one more thing.
So, 'When Harry Met Sally' is coming out in a collectors edition DVD this week.
I'm curious as to what you think about the infamous theory that Harry tells Sally at the beginning of the movie. If you need a refresher, Click here for the clip.
Email me with your thoughts.
Also....
If you are missing the TV show '24', tv writer Ken Levine wants to help. He's written what he believes should be the first 2 hours of the new season with tongue firmly planted in his cheek.
Click here to check it out, before he RUNS OUT OF TIME!!
So I'm checking out one of the fansites for the TV show "The Office". There's a story relating to something Dwight shares with Jim, about how using a teapot with warm salt water poured directly into the nostrils can clean out your sinuses.
Apparently, it's real!!! They are called neti pots, and I had never heard of them before. Click here for the story!
|
01/08/2008 - "The Office" fansites
My Office obsession continues!
I thought I'd post links to some of my favorite fansites that I've checked out. If you're a fan of "The Office" and miss it as much as I do, maybe these will help tide us all over.
www.northernattack.com - The website name comes from "Diversity Day" when Michael says: Abraham Lincoln once said that, “If you’re a racist, I will attack you with the North.” And those are the principles that I carry with me in the workplace.
www.officetally.com - The first fan site that I came across. LOTS of stuff here, including results from a "Talking Head" contest where fans re-created their favorite 'talking head' moments from the show. Here's a link to the winners.
"That's What She Said" - This is a good site as well. I haven't explored it too deeply, but from what I see on the front page it's......AWESOME!
http://twocentsbranchoffice.blogspot.com/ - is an Office fan blog!
Here are some Office-related youtube clips:
Creed Bratton playing guitar at "The Office" convention in Scranton. Click here.
A video blog of the filming of the "Booze Cruise" episode. Click here.
What has 2 thumbs and misses "The Office"??
THIS GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
01/07/2008 - I'm Back!
I hope I remember how to run all the controls in ther DJ booth!!

12/28/2007 - V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N!
Hey there! Just a reminder that I am actually taking some TIME OFF!!
I'll return to the midday shift on Monday January 8th, 2008!
See you then!!
|
12/26/2007 - 1oo movies...100 quotes...100 numbers...
OK you know what a movie geek I am right? Well I found a youtube video that parodies all those "Top 100 movie list" TV specials you see from time to time.
Its called: "100 Movies...100 quotes...100 numbers..."
It is, in my humble opinion, the best clip you'll ever see on youtube!
|
12/23/07 - "The Christmas Song" rehearsal.
So do you want to actually see me play piano?
My rehearsal before I played during the 3:00pm show at the American Cabaret Theater is posted on youtube.
There are a few mistakes, after all it IS a rehearsal. But if you want to see it, the link is here.
I'll try and get the video of the actual performance posted later.
|
12/21/2007 - Mamma Mia! The movie!!!!
Did you know they were making the Broadway Musical "Mamma Mia!" into a movie?
I didn't until today. Would you like to see a preview?
It's online at www.mamma-mia.com
Enjoy!!
|
12/19/2007 - Merry Christmas!
Well it's a done deal.
After 4 weeks of practice, I'll be performing "The Christmas Song" as a prelude to the American Cabaret Theater's Christmas Show, "Home For The Holidays". Read my entries a little further down this blog to find out how I got myself into this mess, hehe.
If you want to attend, I'll be performing before the 3pm show on Saturday December 22nd. The phone number to buy tickets is 631-0334 extension 115. Their website is www.actindy.org.
I have been practicing a LOT. Would you like to hear? I'm posting one last MP3 of my playing. It's the whole song. It's not perfect, but I still have a few days to nail it down. You can hear the mp3 here.
Wish me luck!
One more thing, on a different topic:
Make sure you have your computer speakers turned up for this.
Have a great holiday!
|
12/14/2007 - Piano Man!
OK here's the second go 'round with me, a piano, and "The Christmas Song".
I'm starting to put the left hand chords in with the right hand melody line. For your 'pleasure' I've posted a PART of what I have accomplished so far.
If you dare, the MP3 is here.
Have a great weekend!
|
12/11/2007 - Bruce Kopp!
I had the opportunity to talk to Bruce Kopp from Channel 13's Sunrise program on Monday.
We both have recipes featured in the "Sunrise Cookbook" It's a benefit for the United Christmas Service.
I played clips from the interview on the air on Monday, but if you want to hear the whole thing, I've posted the MP3 here. (Right click on the link to save it to your desktop, or just left click it to let Windows Media Player play it.)
|
11/29/2007 - Look at me, I'm playing the piano..but wait there's more!!
Well, I've taken the first step to learning "The Christmas Song".
I've learned the melody line with my right hand. Well, I've learned as much as I can in one night. Practice makes perfect.
Do you want to hear how I'm doing?? I'm not going to play it on the radio. What do you think, I'm crazy??
I went into one of our production studios and recorded a couple of quick run throughs, one slow and one fast. You can hear the MP3 here.
Remember I'm using the system being taught to me by Scott Houston. You can read more about him in my post right beliow this one. He has a DVD out that is basically a one on one course on how to play "The Christmas Song".
I figured that the melody line would be easiest to learn first, so that's what I did. Next up, learning the chords!
Accompanying me is a backing track that is on the DVD. The bass and the percussion are on the DVD. The piano is all me!
Email me and let me know what you think! Am I a glutton for punishment or what?
Also...
Remember those pictures from that JC Penney catalog from 1977 that I posted a while back? Well now someone has gone into some old Ebony Magazine's from the 1970s and posted some fashions ads from that magazine. You can see them here.
|
11/26/2007 - Wanna learn the piano?
I had a neat conversation with Scott Houston, The Piano Guy, today. We talked mostly off the air, but if you want to hear it, I've posted an MP3 here. (I know I know, it only plays out of one channel. I'll fix it later.)
Scott lives in Indianapolis, and has a 30 minute TV show that until recently, aired on WFYI Channel 20. The show still runs on the PBS TV HD feed. His official website is www.scottthepianoguy.com
Scott posts clips from his show regularly on youtube, you can see them here.
I really don't know what else to tell you about him, listen to the interview and you'll get the idea. He's funny, and can motivate just about anyone to learn to play piano.
He has motivated me to the point that I want to learn to play "The Christmas Song" by this Christmas. If I do, I'll post it on my blog when the time comes.
|
11/23/2007 - Cute Star Wars YouTube video.
OK I couldn't resist posting this. It's a cute video with a kid and an adult (Not Me! hehe) dueling with toy lightsabers.
Then, someone with video special effects skills enhanced it.
Check it out here.
|
11/20/2007 - Thanksgiving Travel
'Tis the season for travel. If you want a leg up on whether or not your airline flight is delayed or not, check this website out.
It lists all arrivals and departures from Indianapolis International Airport, and whether or not they are on time or not.
Happy Thanksgiving!
|
11/15/2007 - A 1977 J.C. Penney Catalog!
I don't know where this came from, but I received it in an email and had to share.
It's a blog entry commenting on pictures from a 1977 JC Penney catalog.
If you would like to be reminded about what the style was in 1977, click here.
|
11/14/2007 - Dwight Freeney
So it looks like the Colts will be without Dwight Freeney for the rest of the season because of the injury he sustained during Sunday nights game. He'll be back next year though.
I wonder what he'll do to fill the time.
I'd like to offer up a suggestion. I understand that he is quite good with the Madden Football video game. I'm not too shabby myself. J.C. is pretty good too.
If he feels up to it, we could take him on in a few games.
Just a thought.

The folks at the Children's Bureau sent a pic of me and Ann Duran cooking at their celebrity cook off at Benihana's. I thought I'd post it here:

11/13/07 - TV Writers Strike.
So we've been talking today about the TV writers strike. Soon it will start affecting what we watch! For example, "The Office" has only one more new episode before they go into reruns.
There is a TV writer who keeps a blog. His name is Ken Levine, he's worked on shows like M*A*S*H, Everybody Loves Raymond, and The Simpsons. He is writing a lot about the strike, and his experiences on the picket lines. It's pretty entertaining.
If you want to read it, it's here.

11/12/2007 - Steve Sansweet
Looking for that perfect gift for the "Star Wars" fan in your life? How about a vault?
Not just ANY vault, "The Star Wars Vault". I had a chance recently to talk to the keeper of the vault, and the author of the book, Steve Sansweet.
Steve is even more of a Star Wars collector than I am, if you can believe that. He is considered to be an UBER-collector. He works for Lucasfilm, so he has the ultimate inside track for all the good stuff.
I had the chance to talk to him about the book, as well as all things "Star Wars". The interview can be heard here. it's an mp3 so just 'right-click, save as', or left click, and your media player will play it back as soon as it loads.
The interview runs about 10 minutes.

Hey there!
It's a busy week for yours truly.
This Tuesday night, I'll be at the opening night performance of "Mamma Mia!" at the Murat. After checking out the website, I found out they are making a movie version of the musical! Wow!
This Wednesday, I'll be spending a few hours at the Christmas Gift, and Hobby Show. I'll be there from 5pm to 7pm.
Afterwards I'll immediately head downtown for the monthly Star Wars group meeting of the Indy Knights. We'll meet at the Athenaeum ballroom, 405 E Michigan at 7:30pm. You can come if you want, it's free and fun, and we celebrate all things Star Wars.

The film is a short called, "Validation", written produced and directed by Kurt Kuenne.

10/15/2007 - TV Themes.
So am I the only one who thinks that TV themes have gone by the way side these days? I think there are very FEW theme songs for shows today, that will be memorable years from now.
I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
Ken Levine, a noted TV writer who worked on shows like MASH, agrees. Read his blog entry here.
Your thoughts?? Email me.

10/10/2007 - Childrens Bureau Fundraiser.
So last night, I took part in the 10th annual Celebrity Cook-Off at Benihana's. It's a benefit for the Children's Bureau.
I've been involved the last 5 years or so. I had a blast!
There were 2 seatings, and I worked them both. During the first seating, I cooked with Ann Duran. At the second seating, I cooked with Quinn Buckner, it was his first time.
All manner of celebrities were there. Other TV & Radio people, sports personalities, and so on.
Everyone was very nice and very generous with their time. I have to give it up to Colts player Dallas Clark though. He cooked at the later seating, and posed for every picture, signed every autograph, and he answered the most often asked question of the night: "How Are You?" after the big hit he took during the game on Sunday. He is fine, ready and rarin' to go!
If your company wants to go next year, I'd secure a table ASAP as this event sells out every year.
Go to www.childrensbureau.org for info about the organization.
See you there!!!

10/05/2007 - Hey there.
Just checking in. It's been a while.
I've been thinking today about how much I enjoy the internet. I'm not addicted or anything like that. It's just that the 'net has enabled me to get in touch with people who might otherwise have fallen by the wayside.
I lived in Minnesota for a few years back in the late 80's and early 90's and I am still able to be in touch with friends and former co-workers through email.
In the last few months, an old Army buddy reached me through a posting I wrote in an online forum talking about my days at Fort Ord, California.
Isn't that amazing?
I am still searching for a few people, and with a little luck, I'll get through to them too!

09/20/2007 - Family Guy Star Wars!!!

09/20/2007 - An Experiment,
Just for fun, I am experimenting with a webcam in studio. If you have Yahoo Instant Messenger on your computer, add 'tracktom' as your friend.
Anytime I am on the air, I'll try and have the studio webcam up and running.

As a sidebar they interviewed me! I talked about the Motown Cafe, and other things in general.
